TASER

Taser Guns, How Do they Work?

A personal taser is an electroshock weapon, also known as a CEW or conducted electrical weapon. The taser will fire two electrodes that are small and dart-like that will remain connected to the main portion of the unit by way of conductors. When employed, they will deliver electrical currents that work to disrupt the voluntary control of muscles, thus creating neuromuscular incapacitation. Thus we begin to answer the question, "How does a taser gun work?"

Taser Effects on the Body?

A person who is struck by a taser gun will experience the simulation of their motor and sensory nerves, which will create very strong and involuntary contractions of the muscles. The taser does not create pain compliance unless it is used in drive stun mode. This is preferred by certain law enforcement as a way of force over other electronic control weapons or stun guns.

Why Do Police Use Tasers?

Taser has been introduced as weapons that were non-lethal for use by the police to help contain and subdue people who are potentially dangerous that may have been subjected to firearms or other lethal weapons.

There have been studies done to show that officer injuries have dropped a great deal with the use of stun guns and the taser device has been touted as saving tens of thousands of lives. When they are employed, the taser fires out two dart-like electrodes that remain connected by conductive wire to the main handheld unit. There is an air cartridge inside that uses small nitrogen charges that are compressed to act like a propellant for a single shot, which has to be replaced after use.

Learn How a Personal Taser Gun Works?

To continue answering the question, "how does a taser gun work", we must first look at the deployment cartridge.  Numerous cartridges are designed by range, with some reaching up to 35 feet. The cartridges are made available to consumers on a non-law enforcement level at a range of 15 feet.

Electrodes are made to penetrate the clothing and they are barbed so that they are difficult to remove once they are imbedded in the skin. Earlier models had difficulty when penetrating the clothing, however the newer versions have the ability to get into thicker barriers.

Personal tasers offer a great deal of safety for police officers, as they have a better range than pepper spray, batons as well as techniques using empty hands. They work to allow an officer to keep a safe distance.

Studies have shown that use of force tactics including the use of tasers can result in less injuries other than batons and other techniques. Studies have shown that only pepper spray showed promise as a safe intervention option.

Are Tasers and Stun Guns the Same?

There are some taser models, including those used by the police, have drive stun capabilities. This is where the taser can cause pain when pushed up against the target without having to fire the projectiles.

Drive stun is the use of the EMD weapon as a pain compliance technique with activation simply by pressing against the body. This is something that can be done without having to have an air cartridge in place or you can use it after the cartridge has been deployed.

What is the Difference between Tasers vs Stun Guns?

While you will often find the two terms interchangeable, especially in google search, you should take notice that the technical difference between them is huge. Why is it of high importance? There are different laws and regulations, depending on the place you reside, that apply to each individually.

The design of a stun gun is to be applied directly to an attacker and supply an extremely painful electric shock in order to cause them retreat. On the other hand, a personal Taser will fire two darts into an assailant and is actually a brand name. Both of the probes are connected back to Taser gun via wires. The electrical shock that causes the immobization of the attacker actually travels down the wires.

While the two devices do have there advantages for your personal security, in the end it is your particular needs that will determin which to use. In the end the simple differences of these two self defense weapons can be stated in a single word "distance".

Who created the Taser Gun?

The Taser device was created by a NASA researcher, Jack Cover. It was patented in 1974 and he chose to name it the Thomas A. Swift Electric Rifle after his childhood hero Tomas Swift.
